What makes Thunderbolt different from a regular penetrating oil?

Most penetrating oils run off the part before they finish the job. Thunderbolt #5009 foams on and stays put, clinging to the rust while the industrial-strength formula works its way past the corrosion and into the threads. That's the whole trick: contact time. The longer the oil stays on the joint, the deeper it creeps, and foam buys you that time. It also leaves a lubricating layer behind, so the part it just freed doesn't grind itself back into trouble.

How do you free a seized bolt with it?

Spray the joint until the foam covers it, then walk away for a few minutes and let it work. A few light taps with a hammer help the oil wick into the threads. Then turn. For a badly rusted fastener, spray again and give it more time. Forcing it is how bolts snap, and drilling out a snapped bolt will eat the rest of your afternoon.

Where can you buy Thunderbolt?

Thunderbolt Penetrating Oil #5009 is available directly from Well Worth Products. Ships from our facility in Buffalo, NY.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the foam matter?

Vertical and overhead surfaces. A thin oil drips off an exhaust stud or a suspension bolt in seconds. Foam hangs on and keeps the oil where the rust is.

Does it protect the part afterward?

Yes. It leaves a lubricant film that protects the metal and keeps things moving, even in rough conditions. Exposed hardware stays workable next time you need it.

What about tight spots the foam can't reach?

Laser Penetrating Oil is the thin, fast-wicking option for pinpoint work. A lot of shops keep both on the shelf.

How do I keep the bolt from seizing again?

Once it's free, coat the threads before reassembly. White Knight Lithium Grease works for hardware under load, and Slippery Stuff Silicone Spray keeps exposed metal sealed against moisture.
